Breaking News: Brown threatens to sue Swan over Uighur comment

Premier Ewart Brown is threatening legal action against Opposition leader Kim Swan unless he issues a public apology for comments made on ZBM television.

A letter sent by a solicitor which was released to the media accuses Mr. Swan of libelling Dr. Brown in a June 24 broadcast.

The UBP leader is said to have criticised the process by which four former Guantánamo detainees were brought here, saying “the Premier broke the law”.

Said Mr. Swan this evening: “I thought the public ought to know that I have received the letter that accompanies this press release from Wendell Hollis, acting on behalf of the Premier.

“It is a letter which threatens me with legal action unless I apologise for and retract remarks suggesting Dr Brown broke the law when he negotiated with the US Government to bring the Uighurs to Bermuda. I will not do that.”
