A motor tanker en route from Sweden to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, made a detour to pick up an injured French sailor and drop him in Bermuda for treatment.
The 11,259 ton tanker Songa Pearl picked up the man, who was suffering from a hernia, from the 40-foot catamaran Mari's Leonardo when that vessel was 200 miles east of Bermuda on Saturday night.
The tanker arrived off the east end of the Island at 7 p.m last night and a pilot boat picked up the patient and took him to land for hospital treatment.
