Igor Wedding

While Igor has kept many inside their homes since Saturday afternoon Tim and Dara Furr decided to forge ahead with their wedding.

The local couple said I do at 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 19, 2010, in the Hamilton Princess Ball Room.

The couple took a moment out from the Electric Slide to speak with The Royal Gazette.

"We started planning our wedding in December last year," Dara said last night. "We planned to get married outside on the hotel property."

The two met five years ago while working with the Fairmont Hamilton. As Igor approached they decided not to let the hurricane, which was downgraded to a Category 1 today and has been battering the Island for hours, ruin their big day.

Dara said: "Friday afternoon I started panicking, but I was fairly calm before that. There is nothing I can do about it."

They decided that because Igor was not due to hit until Monday, their Saturday wedding should go on. Latest updates show that Igor has sped up and is due to be 22 nautical miles to the west-north-west tonight.

Dara said the couple had almost finished boarding up their house in anticipation of hurricane winds before she left for her hair appointment yesterday.

"We are going to stay at the Fairmont tonight [Friday] but head back to our home on Saturday and finish the preparations," Tim said.

The couple had 90 people at their wedding, 10 were from overseas.

"The hurricane has inconvenienced them, Tim said. Some were supposed to leave on Monday but they can’t now.

"We are supposed to fly to Vegas for our honeymoon on Tuesday. I hope we still can."
