Island marks Public Health Week

Public Health Week will be celebrated with a series of events planned across the Island this week.One of the highlights is the annual Argus health fair. A collaboration between the Argus Group and the Bermuda Hospitals Board, it will be held tomorrow recognised around the globe as World Health Day.The Department of Health yesterday announced a handful of activities run in conjunction with Public Health Week, April 6 through 9.

One of the highlights is the annual Argus health fair. A collaboration between the Argus Group and the Bermuda Hospitals Board, it will be held tomorrow recognised around the globe as World Health Day.

The Department of Health yesterday announced a handful of activities run in conjunction with Public Health Week, April 6 through 9.

Throughout National Wellness Week, the Department of Health will collaborate with other agencies and public health partners to promote wellness with each activity being devoted to a different sector of the population. Events begin today with a focus on men's maintenance.

The public is invited to attend the annual Argus health fair at Number Six Shed tomorrow, when information will be provided on a range of health issues. On Wednesday, the Department of Health will host a wellness afternoon for seniors. The event will be held at the Hamilton Health Centre on Victoria Street from 1.30 p.m. until 4.30 p.m. and is open to seniors aged 65 and older.

On Thursday the Department of Health will partner with the Department of Youth, Sports and Recreation's community centres to promote fun, physical activity for children.

And the Ministry of Health will honour individuals and organisations that have contributed to women's health in Bermuda with the presentation of the 2009 Public Health Awards.
