It's jail time for these Island celebrities

Jailbirds: E. Michael Jones, Bruce Barritt, Patrina O'Connor and Dennie O'Connor stare out from behind the bars of their cell at No. 6 Shed during the Pride Celebrity Lock-up yesterday

There was no escape for a number of Island celebrities and well-known faces as they were rounded up, put on trial and locked up in cells in Hamilton, and then faced being kept incarcerated unless members of the public were willing to donate money to pay for their bail.

A number of the jailbirds tried to make a break for freedom, only to be captured by the PRIDE "cops" on duty at No. 6 Shed yesterday.

It was all for a good cause – PRIDE Bermuda. The Royal Gazette photographer caught a number of the jailbirds doing time, including Tourism Board Chairman E. Michael Jones, Chamber of Commerce president Phil Barnett and 'Coke distributor' Bruce Barritt.

The PRIDE 'Celebrity Lock-In' was designed as a "fun-filled afternoon for the local community to build awareness of the impact, effects and devastating consequences of drug-use," said Judith Burgess, PRIDE's executive director.
