Major League pitcher to conduct free clinic

Ron Darling

A former Major League Baseball all-star pitcher who won the World Series with the New York Mets in 1986, will be on the Island to host a free youth baseball clinic this month.

Ron Darling will host the one night clinic as part of the Bermuda Department of Tourism's partnership with the New York Mets and SportsNet New York, the team's television network.

Premier Ewart Brown, who is also the Minister of Tourism and Transport, said the visit was just another way the partnership with the Mets would be beneficial to Bermudians.

He said: "Our partnership with the Mets is first and foremost about exposing our Tourism product to Mets fans, but we are constantly looking for ways to make this partnership beneficial to all Bermudians — even those outside the Tourism industry. This is another such example."

The "Feel the Love Baseball Clinic with Ron Darling" will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on July 16 at the Southside baseball fields.

Boys and girls aged eight to 15, who have played organised baseball in the past and have at least a fundamental understanding of the game, are invited to attend.

Participants are required to bring their own baseball glove. All other baseball equipment will be provided and parents are welcome to watch the clinic.

Anyone interested in the clinic should e-mail at: metsfan@gov.bm listing the participant's name and age, a parent or guardian's name and a contact phone number.

Each e-mailed entry will receive a reply confirming registration in the clinic.

The deadline for registration will be Tuesday, July 15 at 5 p.m.
