One hundred people attend Police Town Hall meeting

Almost 100 people gathered at Francis Patton School to ask questions and meet Police working in their area.

The town hall style meeting was the second in a series of meetings held by the Bermuda Police Service to encourage dialogue between residents and the Police who work in the eastern parish area. In attendance was a diverse crowd of residents from every walk of life and a handful of politicians including UBP Senator Suzanne Roberts-Holshouser, UBP Senate leader Michael Dunkley, Works and Engineering Minister Derrick Burgess, Independent MP Darius Tucker, and former MP Arthur Hodgson.

Police from the eastern Community Action Team (CAT) were able to answer questions from the crowd as well as discuss various initiatives planned for the eastern community.

"It was a good evening and I am happy with the level of community support," said Tracy Adams, Commander of the eastern area. "My officers did themselves very well and we were able to build some community cohesion as a result of the meeting. The CATs will be building on this cohesion and working with the community in going forward. I am looking forward to future meetings in the eastern area."

Police Commissioner Michael DeSilva said: "This type of meeting is exactly what the police will be doing to build relationships with members of the public and to allow for meaningful discussions about crime and other issues facing our community.

"The Bermuda Police Service's approach is about involving everyone in solving community problems by putting most of our energies into the things that matter most. The solid attendance of Members of Parliament, Parish Council members and local area residents is very assuring that the level of public cooperation is high. We welcome this community spirit and hope the atmosphere will be repeated as we hold future meetings in other parts of the Island."

The meeting took place on Tuesday.
