Phenomenal Women group saved me
Close to a year ago Shamaine Talbot was desolate, she felt the world was against her and she couldn't find a way out no matter how hard she tried.
Then one day Miss Talbot, 31, found the help she was searching for with the woman's support group Phenomenal Women. She started going to a weekly 'Eagles' Wings' meeting and soon found that her life was transformed.
Miss Talbot told The Royal Gazette: "Everything in my life was getting affected, that's how negative I was. Just if something little happened I made it seem like it was the biggest issue going, another thing attacking me."
"Something set me off, and it got to the point where I couldn't deal with it anymore, and somebody brought Phenomenal Women to me.
"The group saved me from myself because if I didn't meet them I would probably be in the same gloomy position."
Miss Talbot remembered her first breaking point came one day when she was home listening to music. A spiritual feeling came over her and she broke down in tears, the next morning she asked God for a change in her life.
She said: "Since I've been going to the group I've learnt to look at things in a positive way, be positive to myself, first and foremost."
"I've learnt how to forgive with God's help, and with their help to forgive others, and since I've learnt how to forgive its took a lot off my shoulders, I feel better, I'm a calmer person than I was before."
The Eagles' Wings group involves 20 women talking about their heartaches, trials and triumphs. Though everyone has different issues, it helps to get others feedback, to be able to talk and release your problems.
Miss Talbot is sure there are other women out there taking on too much and struggling to cope. For those women she says: "No matter what you are going through, somebody else is going through it the same way.
"The group will try to help you get through it, but you have to be willing to open up and allow somebody in to find your potential, the person that you really are.
"I encourage you all to come out and get that help you are looking for. We are all looking for someone to reach out to."
Miss Talbot and the other Phenomenal Women meet every Monday at 5.30 p.m. Anyone interesting in finding out more about the Eagles' Wings support group is urged to contact group leader Margaret Giloth at 734 4034.
