Police probe two road crashes

A forensic officer photographs the scene on North Shore Road at the junction of Radnor Road where a van collided with a wall on Saturday night causing the road to be closed and traffic to be detoured around Harrington Sound.

Alcohol is believed to have played a part in two road smashes over the weekend, according to the Police.

A 31-year-old man driving a van lost control of the vehicle and collided with a wall on North Shore Road, Hamilton Parish, around 11.10 p.m. on Saturday.

The van ended up blocking both lanes and causing traffic to be diverted away from the scene, near Radnor Road.

The driver, from Warwick, suffered a broken shoulder and facial injuries. He was taken to hospital and subsequently arrested on suspicion of drunk-driving.

Around 9.20 p.m. on Friday a 55-year-old male motorcyclist lost control and collided with a wall on Middle Road, Devonshire.

He sustained injuries to his left foot and left hand and abrasions in the collision, near the junction with Montpelier Road. He was taken to hospital and later arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.

Inquiries were ongoing yesterday into both incidents.
