Police report 54 road accidents

Bermuda's road users suffered 54 accidents in the week from May 26 - with 22 of them resulting in injury.

In addition, four people were arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired by drink or drugs.

With nine deaths on the roads so far in 2008, the Island is heading towards one of the worst years on record.

A Police spokesman urged the motoring public: "Slow down and use care, caution and courtesy on the Island's roads.

"Additionally, we urge those travelling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those travelling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane."

In addition to the accidents, there were 24 vehicles reported stolen over the course of the week - all cars except for one car and two pedal cycles. Six have since been found.
