Report ordered on woman who assaulted others

A woman with a history of criminal offences admitted to assaulting and threatening three women whom she didn't know on three separate occasions.

Felicia Hassan, 38, of no fixed abode pleaded guilty to unlawfully assaulting Mary Ann Cullen on May 7 and causing her grievous bodily harm, behaving in a threatening manner and unlawfully assaulting Gail Mello on April 24 causing her grievous bodily harm and behaving in a threatening manner towards Jennifer Gunn on April 22.

The court heard from Crown counsel Nicole Smith, that Ms Cullen was walking north along Burnaby Street at the time of that incident and moved out of the way to let Hassan pass by her. After Hassan walked past, Ms Cullen heard a glass bottle break and Hassan said: "White bitch, take that."

Ms Cullen noticed there was blood coming down her leg from a three centimetre wound and called the Police.

In the next incident, Ms Mello was walking into Washington Mall to get breakfast from Delicious when she saw Hassan standing in the entrance way.

Ms Mello asked her if she was going to move and Hassan said: "What the f*** does it look like you white b***, you white c***".

Ms Mello decided to go upstairs to another restaurant but when it was full, she came back downstairs and Hassan began to follow calling out obscenities and then began hitting her on the back.

The final incident happened when Ms Gunn was walking to her bike parked in the City Hall car park. When she neared her bike, Hassan stood next to it and said: "Move out of my way you white b****, you white c***. Do you want to die today?"

All three women identified Hassan as the defendant. She was arrested an interviewed at the Hamilton Police Station.

In court, Hassan's lawyer, Llewellyn Peniston tried to blame society and Hassan's own mother for her actions and suggested her mother should be in court today, not her.

Acting Senior Magistrate Juan Wolffe disagreed and said: "You expect me to believe it is Ms Hassan's mother's fault she called three women white b****s and white c***s?"

The Magistrate said the incidents were brought on by Hassans's personal choices and ordered a Social Inquiry Report as well as psychiatric and psychological tests to be done by July 7 when she will appear in court for sentencing.
