Seniors' Week postponed due to rain

Inclement weather, not an inclement political atmosphere, caused the move of Seniors' Week according to a Government spokesman.

The annual Seniors' Week of Activities was due to start yesterday and continue until Thursday however the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs postponed it.

The events will now take place on June 29 and continue to July 3, in the Show Ring of the Botanical Gardens.

Inclement weather was the reason given for the delay.

A spokesman said the move had nothing to do with the resignation of Dale Butler, who up until Saturday was the Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs.

He also denied the date was changed because the event coincided with the visit of Reverend Al Sharpton.

The US civil rights activist was on the Island yesterday to show support for Premier Ewart Brown's decision to allow four Guantánamo detainees to relocate to Bermuda.
