A sex offender on the run yesterday handed himself back into custody.

David Burrows escaped custody on April 8 while on day release at Bermuda College. The Department of Corrections this week issued an appeal to the public to report any sightings of the 27-year-old.

But a Government spokeswoman said yesterday: "The Department of Corrections wishes to inform the public that inmate David Franklin Burrows has returned of his own accord to the Westgate Correctional Facility.

"We would like to thank the public for any information provided."

Burrows was jailed for six years in 2003 after twice being convicted of having sex with girls under the age of 14. He is currently housed at the Transitional Living Centre.
