Soca night for seniors

Seniors will have the opportunity to 'wine' their waists and a do a little dance at a special soca night just for them.

The event will take place tomorrow night at the Devonshire Recreation Club and is being organised by the Bermuda Hospitals Board's Continuing Care Unit (CCU).

CCU staff used to arrange for the seniors to attend the annual Byron Lee soca show.

With his passing last year, they didn't want the seniors to miss out and this event was planned.

Capri Smith, CCU activities coordinator said: "Events like this give seniors a chance to get out and do something exciting. They enjoy visiting with others, and dancing provides a great form of exercise.

"We recognise how important it is for seniors to socialise, especially those who live [at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital]. We plan events and activities throughout the year so seniors won't feel isolated or lonely."

Ms Smith continued: "Some seniors are separated from their friends and relatives because they are placed in different nursing facilities. These events provide an opportunity for seniors to socialise with people they love and miss."

The seniors soca event will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is free to all seniors. Light refreshments will be served.
