Some positives, but still room for improvement at TCD – residents
A year after TCD officially re-opened its North Street, Hamilton, facility, director Randy Rochester claims that public feedback about the new facility has been "very positive".
On the anniversary of its opening, The Royal Gazette canvassed patrons about their experience as they left TCD. The majority of people leaving the premises held a positive view, but several still complained of inefficiency and long waiting times.
Richard Paynter, of St. George's, was impressed with his visit. "It was good," he said. "Compared to my previous experiences with TCD, I was pleased."
However, Nathan Webb, a Devonshire resident and motorcycle mechanic, claimed to have been waiting for several hours.
"It was a bad experience," he said. "It took a long time. I have been here since 10 a.m. this morning trying to get a brand new bike on the road."
Other customers were pleased with the time they spent at TCD, but believed that there is still room for improvement.
Stanford Jackson, from Smith's, said: "It is a 100 percent improvement from the old TCD and the customer service is OK, but as a businessman I think there should be a separate department for commercial vehicles and trucks.
"It can be time consuming coming here and it isn't easy for someone to leave work to spend their whole morning or afternoon here."
Roy King, of Hamilton Parish, said he was at TCD to "re-do his license and take his driving test". He had a positive view of his experience saying: "It was much better than the previous facility."
Warwick resident Amanda Smith, who was at TCD to register her car, said that she was happy with the service, but plans to do it differently when she is next required to register.
"This is the first time that I have been here since they re-opened," she said. "It worked pretty well for me, I thought that I would be here longer, but next year I will register online, it is quicker."
One man, giving his name as RP, from Pembroke, found the new facilities aesthetically pleasing but was not as happy with the service. "They must be related to the bank because they are still slow, but the building is nice," he said.
"It took too long," said Dinis Pacheco of Devonshire. "It is no better than before, it took me at least 35 minutes to license my bike."
