Street fighters ran, Police caught up
Two men were each fined $500 in court yesterday for fighting in public last weekend.
Justin Hassell, 24, of St. Anne's Road in Southampton and Edward Petty, 26, of Middle Road in Southampton pleaded guilty to fighting in a public place, namely Bermudiana Road in Pembroke on July 13.
Police on foot patrol walking west on Front Street found a group of men fighting shortly after midnight.
The fight immediately broke up when officers arrived on the scene and the men involved ran away. However, Police officers caught up with Hassell, whose shirt was torn and had an abrasion to the face, as well as Petty.
Both men apologised for the offence and Petty told the court: "I'm sorry for what I did. I made a mistake; alcohol (got) the best of me."
They were each fined $500, which they must pay by July 15 or face 50 days imprisonment.
