Teenager arrested in connection with shooting

A polce officer gets a closer look at spent bullet casings that littered the ground in a parking lot behind the Charing Cross Tavern on Cambridge Road, Somerset after a man was shot last Friday

A teenager has been arrested in connection to Friday's daylight shooting outside Charing Cross Tavern in Sandys.

A Police spokesman said yesterday that a 19-year-old is being held in custody in connection to the case.

According to a ZBM report, a second man was also brought in for questioning, but was later released.

Just after 5.10 p.m. on Friday, Police responded to the shooting of a 44-year-old Sandys man near the intersection of Somerset Road and Cambridge Road.

Acting Chief Inspector Calvin Smith of the Serious Crime Unit is leading the investigation

A woman who was inside the tavern when the shots rang out said that customers ran and dove for cover, while a neighbour said he saw the victim bleeding as he was dragged into a car to be taken to hospital.

The victim last night was still being treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, but was considered in stable condition.

Police said that a number of witnesses have already stepped forward with information, and they said there is a "robust" Police presence in the West End.

Already this year at least 21 people have been shot on the Island with six of the incidents being fatal.

Anyone who was in the area when the shooting occurred or has any information about the incident are asked to contact the Police at 299-8155 or Crimestoppers Bermuda at 800-8477.
