Tourists hurt in bike crash
Two tourists riding together on a rental cycle were involved in an accident with a truck on Monday afternoon.
Police attended the scene on Middle Road, in Southampton, near Heron Bay Primary School, involving a truck and the cycle around 1.30 p.m..
It appears that the rental cycle was travelling east on Middle Road and the truck was travelling in the opposite direction when the female rider of the rental cycle lost control and the two vehicles collided.
She sustained facial injuries, abrasions to her arms and legs and a possible fractured right leg. The rental cycle passenger, a 21-year-old Pittsburgh man, sustained abrasions to his hands and legs.
Both the man and woman are visitors to the Island and were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the truck, a 52-year-old Southampton man, was not injured. The rental cycle received front-end damage, while the truck was not damaged.
