Woman faces 911 harass charge

A woman appeared in court accused of using offensive words and harassing the emergency Police service.

Melissa Ray, 39, of Smith's, was charged under the Telecommunications Act 1986 of sending 'grossly offensive, harassing and annoying' messages to the Police emergency telephone lines of 911 and 295 0011.

Ray, who is alleged to have committed the offences on July 2, pleaded not guilty in Magistrates Court yesterday. She was granted bail ahead of her trial on December 9.
