Women charged with stealing from employer

Two women denied stealing almost $90,000 from their employer yesterday in Magistrates' Court.Cheryl Lee Wolffe and Edna Matthews were separately charged with stealing the money from Bermuda Import and Export Company Ltd. where they were both clerks.Matthews, 47, of Sunset Pass, Pembroke, pleaded not guilty to stealing $40,428 between February 28, 2001 and July 27, 2005 and an additional $4,072 between July 27, 2005 and August 25, 2005.

Two women denied stealing almost $90,000 from their employer yesterday in Magistrates' Court.

Cheryl Lee Wolffe and Edna Matthews were separately charged with stealing the money from Bermuda Import and Export Company Ltd. where they were both clerks.

Matthews, 47, of Sunset Pass, Pembroke, pleaded not guilty to stealing $40,428 between February 28, 2001 and July 27, 2005 and an additional $4,072 between July 27, 2005 and August 25, 2005.

Wolffe, 48, of Winter Lane, Hamilton Parish, pleaded not guilty to stealing $38,359 between April 30, 2002 and July 27,2005.

She also denied stealing $6,426 between July 27, 2005 and August 23, 2005.

The matter was set down for mention on June 12 with the trial scheduled to take place September 29 and 30.

The women were bailed in the amount of $5,000.

Wolffe is represented by Elizabeth Christopher and Matthews by Allan Doughty.
