New Bermuda College tuition announced

Bermuda College students will have to pay 50 percent of their total programme costs after Government revoked its free tuition scheme due to the recession.President Duranda Greene announced this morning that tuition will now be approximately $1,072.50 for full-time students, beginning in September.Dr Greene said the Bermuda Government had been affected by the economic recession and Bermuda College, which had its budget slashed by $2 million, “was not immune” to this.She said school staff had also been affected by the cuts and have agreed to take a pay freeze this year, in addition to six days of unpaid leave.The school has also postponed some of its capital projects, explained Dr Greene.Vice president of Student Affairs Sheridan Talbot said there will be some financial assistance options for students in need.Students can also get help paying for school books through the College’s book loaner programme.The Bermuda College is also encouraging sponsors to come on board to further assist students in need.
