Interns from seven companies participated in a charity community day organised by The Centre on Philanthropy.Pictures of the activities were shared on Facebook, with people asked to vote on whose efforts they ‘liked’ the best as part of The Centre’s Community Day Facebook Photo Challenge.Last month’s community day was in aid of six charities BIOS, the Bermuda Aquarium Museum and Zoo, the Bermuda Gymnastics Association and the National Museum of Bermuda, the Eliza Doolitle Society and Somersfield Academy.Interns from XL Group, PricewaterhouseCoopers, ACE Group, Belco, Endurance Speciality Insurance Ltd, Ariel Re and Flagstone Re were asked to take a picture that symbolised their company and their volunteer project. The picture was posted on The Centre’s Facebook page.XL and PWC were tied with 49 likes but XL emerged victorious after giving the quickest response to a tiebreaking question about volunteering.“Social media can be an excellent way to engage people in community events and we’re very pleased the teams had so much fun with the challenge,” said Jennifer Pitcher, volunteer programme coordinator for The Centre.Team XL spent its community day cleaning up the historic displays in the boat loft at the National Museum of Bermuda.Members described the experience as “hot and tiring but a lot of fun and really interesting”.Intern Stacy Oughton said: “It was great to give back to the community and learn something about our Country at the same time.”
