Nick Lines marches on at tennis championships

Bermuda's Nick Lines won his opening main draw match at the Under-13 Caribbean Tennis Championships in Suriname defeating Trinidad's Nabeel Mohammed.

Lines, who will now advance to compete for positions one to eight, defeated Mohammed 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 on Wednesday.

Playing on the adjoining court, Lines' team-mate William Way was beaten 6-0, 6-2 by Jamaican Demitre Bird, the smallest player in the tournament. Way will now play for positions nine to 16.

In the girl's singles division, Eva Frazzoni booked her spot in the semi-finals with a comfortable straight sets win over Nicola Ramdyhan of Guyana.

Frazzoni, the lone survivor from last year's team which won the tournament, prevailed 6-3, 6-2.

In opening round of the boy's doubles, Lines and Way took on St. Lucia's Shaquille Jean-Marie and Taqel Lewis. Play was suspended due to bad weather with Bermuda leading 6-3, 6-6 and 6-4 in a tiebreaker.
