Nick Lines marches on at tennis championships

Bermuda’s Nick Lines won his opening main draw match at the Under-13 Caribbean Tennis Championships in Suriname defeating Trinidad’s Nabeel Mohammed.Lines, who will now advance to compete for positions one to eight, defeated Mohammed 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 on Wednesday.Playing on the adjoining court, Lines’ team-mate William Way was beaten 6-0, 6-2 by Jamaican Demitre Bird, the smallest player in the tournament. Way will now play for positions nine to 16.In the girl’s singles division, Eva Frazzoni booked her spot in the semi-finals with a comfortable straight sets win over Nicola Ramdyhan of Guyana.Frazzoni, the lone survivor from last year’s team which won the tournament, prevailed 6-3, 6-2.In opening round of the boy’s doubles, Lines and Way took on St. Lucia’s Shaquille Jean-Marie and Taqel Lewis. Play was suspended due to bad weather with Bermuda leading 6-3, 6-6 and 6-4 in a tiebreaker.
