Katia now a category three storm

Bermuda should receive strong winds with gale force gusts tomorrow as Hurricane Katia passes by, forecasters said today.

And the cruise ship Norwegian Gem has cancelled its visit to Bermuda on Wednesday as a result.

Katia, now a category two hurricane, was 435 nautical miles to the south of Bermuda at 6pm today and its closest point of approach is expected to be 256 nautical miles to the west-southwest at 11pm on Wednesday.

The storm was moving northwest at 10 knots and was packing winds of 100 knots, gusting to 120 knots.
