Gunshots fired near St Monica's Road

Police have launched an investigation after shots were fired near St Monica's Road yesterday.No-one has been reported injured in the incident, which took place around 12.45pm.Police are searching for two men seen in the area at that time. They were described as wearing dark-coloured clothing and said to be on a dark-coloured motorcycle.Officers descended on the Pembroke area after residents reported hearing several gunshots.Up to ten uniformed and plain-clothed police officers wearing bullet-proof vests responded to residents' calls.Officers, including those from forensics and the serious crime unit, appeared to be searching the yard of a house near the junction of St Monica's Road and Glebe Road.They parked in the driveway of the house and remained at the scene for about an hour with a police dog.Residents reported hearing up to four gunshots but there were no reports of anyone being hurt. A handful of residents gathered in the car park of the nearby Seventh-day Adventist Church on Glebe Road as police searched the area.A Police spokesman issued the following statement: “Around 12.45pm on Sunday, police responded to a confirmed firearm incident near the junction of St Monica's Road and The Glebe Road in Pembroke.“Forensic evidence found in the area suggested that a firearm had been discharged; however no-one has reported being injured.”An active investigation is now underway, the spokesman said.Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011.
