Jury inquest to be held into prisoner’s suspected drugs death

The sudden death of a 37-year-old Westgate inmate will be examined before a jury in an inquest set for January.

A drug overdose is suspected in the death of Kino Outerbridge, who collapsed in the prison on October 6, 2009.

Mr Outerbridge, who had been jailed that August for a variety offences, was later pronounced dead at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Magistrate Juan Wolffe, setting an inquest for January 9, 2012, noted that an autopsy suggested Mr Outerbridge’s death may have been caused by an injection of drugs.

Mr Wolffe said he wished to review Westgate’s policies relating to drug interdiction.
