Friends intervene to stop teen's arrest, police

Police officers swarmed Front Street this afternoon after a teenager's friends tried to help him evade arrest.The incident occurred a short distance from the busy Supermart store, where shoppers congregated to watch the action.A Police spokesman said: “Around 3.10pm on Wednesday, December 7, police arrested a 17-year-old Sandys man on Front Street near the junction with King Street, Pembroke, in relation to an outstanding warrant."During the arrest, individuals believed to be friends of the young man apparently attempted to intervene. However, additional police officers promptly attended the scene and the teenager was taken into custody without further incident."The young man was driven away in a police car and no one was hurt during the incident.According to the spokesman: "A court appearance is anticipated in due course.”
