Police investigate two weekend shootings
A gunman fired on a group standing outside a store in Sandys just before midnight last night.Gunshots were reported in Devonshire just over an hour later.No-one was injured in either shooting and police do not consider the two incidents to be linked.Said a Police spokesman: "Around 11pm on Saturday, December 10 two unknown men on a motorcycle were travelling through the Somerset Road, Cambridge Road Sandys parish area when the pillion passenger discharged a firearm in the direction of a group of men standing outside Long Hours Variety store."Police were on mobile patrol in the vicinity and immediately pursued the suspects who made good their escape traveling east along Somerset Road. The scene was cordoned off and forensic evidence found suggested that a firearm had been discharged; however no-one has reported being injured."Police also searched the Alton Hill area of Southampton but did not find the suspects. The gunman is described as wearing a silver helmet; the motorcycle rider is said to have worn a dark coloured jacket.Continued the spokesman: "Following that incident, around 12.30am [today] police received a report of gunshots in the Border Lane East, Devonshire area. Officers promptly responded to the scene and seized evidence for forensic examination. A motorcycle was also impounded in the vicinity. There were no reported injuries.
