HWP seeks to replace buildings destroyed by inferno

Flashback: The fire at HWP last August could be seen for miles around. The company has lodged a planning application to build a replacement showroom, bodyshop and warehouse on St John?s Road, Pembroke.

Five months after its buildings were ravaged in a devastating fire, HWP’s reconstruction process is underway with the official submission of proposals to the Planning Department.The Enterprise Settlement Trust has lodged a planning application to construct a two-storey automotive showroom and paint, bodywork and parts warehouse at the auto dealer’s St John’s Road location.Half of the firm’s operational capacity was destroyed when its site caught fire last August, as a result, according to early reports, of a faulty fuse box in one of the spray painting booths.HWP’s body and spray centre was gutted, along with its car and bike showrooms and administration offices, in an inferno that could be seen for miles around.The blaze also meant the company’s IT and accounting systems needed to be rebuilt from scratch.HWP’s planning application is under review at the Planning Department; any objections must be made by Friday this week.
