Announcement on old court building ‘very soon’ Govt
An announcement about the future of the old Magistrates’ Court building is coming in the near future, according to Government. A spokesman for the Ministry of Government Estates and Information Services said that since the opening of the new Magistrates’ Court in the Dame Lois Browne-Evans Building last year, the old court building on Parliament Street has been used on a temporary basis for “a number of Government functions”. The spokesman added: “There will be public announcement very soon regarding the long-term use of that building.” The future of the old Hamilton Police Station, also replaced by the Dame Lois Browne-Evans Building, is still undecided, with Government considering several different options. The building, on Parliament Street, had been described as “inadequate,” and was repeatedly condemned during its period of operation.
