Lucky escape for driver after car plunges down embankment

A driver escaped with minor injuries after a car plunged over an embankment this morning.

The accident happened on South Road near The Reefs resort at around 1.25am.

The vehicle, a yellow Peugeot, went off the road to the east of the Southampton resort's car park, striking a palm tree and rolling down the bank.

As of 1pm this afternoon, efforts were being made to recover the damaged vehicle.

A Police spokesman said: “It appears that a car was travelling along South Road near the junction with Tribe Road Number Three when it went over an embankment.

“The driver, a 30-year-old Southampton man received relatively minor injuries.”

Workmen get ready to haul a car back to the road after it crashed over the side near to the Reefs hotel today.
