Visitor hurt after collision with truck

A tourist at the West End has been left with "very serious leg injuries" following a collision with a truck at about 12.30pm today, police have confirmed.According to Acting Chief Inspector Robert Cardwell of the Somerset Police Station, the collision took place close to the bridge, and involved a visitor on a bike.Watford Bridge has been closed off by police forensics, but is hoped to be open again for traffic by roughly 2pm.A Police spokeswoman said: ""Around 12 noon on Monday April 9, police responded to a report of a collision between a truck and a livery cycle."It appears that the vehicles were travelling along Mangrove Bay Road in Sandys when they collided. The rider, a visitor to the Island, was injured and conveyed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment." Inquiries into this incident are underway. The scene of the collision was closed off from traffic for further forensic examination. It is anticipated to re-open shortly."
