BTC sickout ends

Staffing levels returned to normal yesterday at BTC where a number of departments were “affected by a large number of absences due to sickness”.On Tuesday BTC CEO Lloyd Fray said: “Whilst we believe that the unusually high number of absences may have been the result of some industrial action, BTC has continued to make every attempt to resolve this matter through ongoing discussions with Bermuda Industrial Union officials.”Mr Fray added: “BTC recognises the impact sickness has on our customers and wishes to apologise for any service interruptions that may have occurred.”When contacted yesterday, a company spokeswoman said: “It appears to be over, all staff are in as usual and meetings between BIU and BTC continue.”Efforts to secure a comment from the union were unsuccessful by press time.
