BHS turns to unique ‘Oktoberfest’ event to raise funds

The Bermuda High School will be hosting its first ever Oktoberfest event in the hopes of raising funds for the school. The event will mimic the traditional German festival and will be held on October 5 from 5.30pm to 8.30pm in the school’s Queen Elizabeth Hall. The event is strictly for those 18 and older and will serve a variety of beers including authentic Oktoberfest beers to sample. The fundraiser will seek to create the same festive carnival atmosphere found at the original Munich Oktoberfest with authentic German pub music and fare, serving brats, sauerkraut, authentic German pretzels and schnitzel.Said BHS’ Director of Advancement, Jennifer Burland Adams: “The QEH will be transformed into a traditional Bavarian Beer Hall for our first Oktoberfest.“We are very grateful for our partners in this event, Bermuda Import Export, Burrows Lightbourne, Goslings and Miles, who are providing a variety of beers for tasting and to Buzz which has created a special Bavarian Tasting Menu exclusively for this event.”Beers that will be available to sample include Sam Adams Oktoberfest, Hoegaarten, Boddingtons Pub Ale, Kirin Ichiban and more than ten other choices, including some niche beers from all over the world. The event, which doubles over as a Bavarian Food Tasting, will feature German beer anthems to help set the mood.Additionally, there will be prizes awarded to the most authentically dressed man and woman at the end of the night.Ms Burland Adams added, “We would like to invite anyone interested in trying authentic Bavarian food and a variety of beers to come out for what will be a fun event.“This is something different to do on a Friday night and a unique way for BHS to raise funds.
