New stamps celebrate St Peter’s Church

A new commemorative stamp series honouring the 400th anniversary of St Peter’s Church has been released.The Bermuda Post Office’s Philatelic Bureau earlier this week announced the new series, which consists of four stamps. Stamp images include a view of the Clock Tower, an image of white limestone slate supported by lathe and rafters, a picture of the bronze plaque that designates the separate burial section for slaves and free people and also a picture of the “welcoming-arm steps” at the church’s present entrance.Said a spokeswoman: “This release represents the fourth commemorative stamp issue for the year.“This collection continues the Bermuda Post Office’s efforts to portray all facets of Bermuda’s heritage, culture and history.”The stamp values range from 35 cents to $1.25. Official First-day covers with liner are $5.50 and a set of stamps goes for $3.65.Orders for the new collections may be prepaid.The next stamp issue to be released by the Bermuda Post Office will commemorate the Diamond Jubilee — Coronation and is slated for February 2013.
