Spreading love with random acts of kindness

First Prev 1 2 Next Last

A kind hearted office assistant spread festive cheer by doing random acts of kindness on Saturday.

Brittany Leamey, 24, from Pembroke, handed out home baked cookies and cash as she travelled up and down the Island.

She described her plan as a “spur of the moment idea” prompted by her desire to “show people that little things go a long way”.

She and friend Stephanie Cordeiro, 24, from Paget, began at the Westmeath home for seniors before heading to Southampton and back.

Ms Leamey explained: “I gave out cookies and candy canes. I had bags of change and gave a kid $5 for his lunch and then gave a guy $10 for his lunch. We stopped and gave someone change for the bus and we gave cookies to the old folks and handed them out at the police station and fire station and to bus drivers.

“Everyone was really very appreciative, they were all very grateful.”

Ms Leamey spent around $150 on the gifts — and said she would do the same thing again, explaining: “I loved it. It was such a good day. It was good to make people happy, even if it was just for two minutes,” she said.

Doing good: Brittany Leamy presents Westmeath residents Mary Doughty and Olive Wilkinson with a package of cookies during a day of random acts of kindness on Saturday.
