Senior collapses, dies on early morning walk

An 83-year-old Sandys resident died while walking on the Railway Trail close to his home at Bluebell Lane in Somerset.

Taxi driver Anson Simmons was found by a neighbour at 8.15am yesterday alongside the Railway Trail, south of its junction with Sound View Road.

Emergency services responded, but Mr Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesman said there did not appear to be any sign of foul play.

A long-standing and popular resident of the area, Mr Simmons was regularly seen walking along the trail, and had set out for his usual morning walk.

Mr Simmons was known to friends by the nickname “Aching Heart”, plus the family nickname of “Tiptoe”.
