800 sign online cannabis decriminalisation petition

Around 800 people have signed an online petition supporting the legalisation of cannabis.

The site ‘Legalize Marijuana in Bermuda’ was set up four weeks ago on the social site Facebook, where as of yesterday it had garnered just under 1,000 “likes”.

It’s linked in turn to the petition website that reads: “Join the effort to begin the debate and demonstrate to the politicians that we need to relax the laws on marijuana.”

The petition hopes to rally 3,000 supporters for decriminalising the drug.

The site has proved a centre for debate, including commenters who don’t support the proposal, and postings of local and international articles and opinion pieces.
