Boat registration renewals due

Photo by Mark TatemMarine and Ports is reminding the public that boat and mooring registration is due by the end of this month.

Boat and mooring owners have until the end of the month to renew their registration with the Department of Marine and Ports.New 2014 decals must be in place by June 1, a spokesman said today.“Mooring licences that are unpaid as of September 1 will be cancelled and the buoys cut. Marine Police will be patrolling and issuing tickets to any offending boats as of June 1.”Failure to receive a renewal notice doesn’t exempt payment, the spokesman added.Mooring owners will be subjected to a late fee, effective June 1. Boats are not subject to a late fee but “all boats, including punts and kayaks” must be registered by law, unless they are out of the water.Payment can be made in three ways: by cash, cheque or card in person; online through HSBC; by mail using a self-addressed envelope included as part of the renewal notice. The spokesman continued: “Members of the public coming to pay in person are advised that there is no parking at Marine and Ports.“Please park either at the top of Spurling Hill or the Supermarket parking lot. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm.”Useful website: www.marineandports.bm
