School event raises $20,000 to help staff with cancer
The ‘Saltus Family Day’ held to assist with medical expenses incurred by two popular faculty members stricken with cancer raised nearly $20,000.
A letter sent out yesterday by school principal Ted Staunton said donations are still being received to help Physical Education teacher Tyler Hall and Academic Support Services director Karen Lusher.
“I informed Tyler and Karen yesterday and they are overwhelmed with the incredibly generous support from their current and former students, their colleagues on staff, Saltus trustees and parents,” said Mr Staunton.
“Thank you to all of you for responding so quickly and magnanimously.”
Students participated in a fundraising popsicle and grub day last Friday. Mr Staunton noted that donations “are still being received” and anticipated a final total in excess of $20,000.
Mr Hall is currently receiving treatment abroad while Ms Lusher is being treated locally but may have to travel overseas for more treatment.
The Saltus Family Fund is also taking donations from parents through the school’s website at www.saltus.bm.
