PLP to honour Alex Scott

Former Premier Alex Scott is to be honoured at a gala event on Saturday.

The event, organised by the executive of constituency 24 takes place at the Fairmont Southampton and will mark Mr Scott’s more than 40 years in politics.

Cassandra King, granddaughter of the late Lois Browne Evans, will sing some tribute songs. Comedian Jah Simmons will MC the event which will see former civil servant Gary Phillips, journalist Bryan Darby and hotelier Michael Winfield, among others, deliver tributes.

Attendees at the black tie event will also be treated to a video presentation highlighting aspects of Mr Scott’s family life, and his political career.

Tickets are $125 for general admission and $175 for patron tickets.

Mr Scott became the Progressive Labour Party’s sixth leader and the second PLP Premier in July 2003 just days after a general election. He replaced Jennifer Smith who had faced a revolt from 11 of the 22 winning MPs. In 2006 he lost a leadership contest to his Deputy Ewart Brown.
