Dr Harris to advise The Bahamas on preserving its forts

Archaeologist Ed Harris is to assist Bahamas officials in the preservation of the island group’s historic fortifications.The National Museum of Bermuda director is Bermuda’s foremost expert on forts has been invited to visit later this month.Bahamian historian Keith Tinker said the invite given in “the spirit of cultural exchange”, would see Dr Harris advising on the administration, preservation and conservation of forts.The islands, particularly New Providence Island, are home to a number of limestone fortifications.Dr Tinker said there was also a history of connections with Bermuda.Dr Harris said he looked forward to talks with the National Museum of the Bahamas, and welcomed the opportunity to build relationships with similar sister institutions in the Caribbean.
