Minibus joy for rest home seniors
Seniors at the Lorraine Rest Home have a brand new set of wheels, courtesy of the outreach group Friends of Christ Church in Warwick. In a ceremony yesterday outside the home, Warwick Parish Council collected the keys to an $80,000 Toyota Coaster minibus — purchased with the help of “an extremely generous donor”, according to Reverend Barry Dunsmore.Residents of the home attend Christ Church once a month, he said. “As a church, we value our ongoing relationship with the Lorraine Rest Home, and it will be a privilege to continue this help in the years to come.”With 23 full-time residents as well as day patients, the home had a busy schedule of trips — and a van that could only take eight passengers at a time. The plush new minibus can carry 13, with four fitted wheelchairs and a wheelchair lift.Council chairman Chaplain Kevin Santucci said the gift came exactly one year after the home celebrated the opening of its new wing, which added eight extra residents.“Given this increase, this gift could not have come at a better time,” he said, also thanking Bermuda Motors for their help with getting the vehicle ready for the road. The minibus comes just before Seniors’ Week, noted Lauren Grant, administrator at Lorraine Rest Home. The colourful bus is illustrated with scenes of the tours and community activities available to seniors — plus an ad for the home’s Facebook address, where members of the community can post pictures from outings and other events. For more information, or to volunteer at the home, contact Ms Grant at 236-5152, or email lorraineresthome@northrock.bm
