Katherine Arnfield was crowned Miss Bermuda 2013 at the Fairmont Southampton last night. Ms Arnfield, representing Smith's, competed with six others who were also bidding to win the coveted title.

Young model Katherine Arnfield was last night named as Miss Bermuda.After a three-hour competition, where seven young beauties showcased their best and brightest traits at Fairmont Southampton, Ms Arnfield was handed the top spot.She sparkled in a gold sequinned ball gown and stunning necklace and earrings and beamed from ear to ear after the announcement was made.Miss Arnfield was also voted the People's Choice Award in a recent BerNews poll.Moments after winning, the 17-year-old said it felt "very surreal". She told The Royal Gazette: "I don't actually believe it's happening. I am just so proud of myself and feel so lucky and can't believe this is happening to me. It feels like I am in a dream."I never expected to get this far," she added.The pageant winner has been modelling for the past few years and had the privilege of appearing on the world stage at London Fashion Week 2011 and 2012.In a previous interview with this newspaper, Miss Smith’s said her biggest inspiration was a friend named Alice Pyne, who passed away from cancer earlier this year, but made international headlines with her bucket list.Last night she said she entered the pageant because she felt she could offer something different and "step up Bermuda's game" on the global scene.She said she was "excited" to now go on to represent the Island in the upcoming Miss World pageant in Indonesia."This is going to be amazing. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. I want to showcase Bermuda as an amazing paradise and a wonderful place with genuine people and will do my best to promote it."Shadow Community and Cultural Development Minister Michael Weeks today extended congratulations to the new Miss Bermuda.“On behalf of the Bermuda Progressive Labour Party, our members and supporters, we extend congratulations to Miss Bermuda 2013 Katherine Arnfield,” he said. “We believe that you will represent Bermuda well on the world stage and encourage you to use your time as Miss Bermuda, to continue serving as a positive role model to Bermudians of all ages.“To Miss Bermuda 2012, Rochelle Minors we extend thanks and best wishes to you in all your future endeavours. You have set a very high standard for all who will follow you and we appreciate all that you have done for Bermuda and Bermudians during your reign.”Other winners of the night included Denae Simmons, who took home the prize for Miss Photogenic, Echaunti Swan, who won the title of Miss Hospitality and Miss Congeniality.Starting off the night with a fun, synchronised dance in black dresses, the confident batch went on to strut their stuff in beautiful ballgowns and dresses.Some of the standouts in the evening gown portion of the event were Jahshuntae Darrell in a red sweetheart gown with ruffles at the bottom, while Danae Simmons, representing Southampton, donned a bright canary yellow gown with sparkle accents and a stunning keyhole back.Comedian Nadanjae Bailey and radio personality Patrina 'Powergirl' O'Connor kept the mood light throughout the night, with a fun rendition of 'I Will Survive' and witty jokes.And some of the Island's brightest talent also wowed the crowd throughout the night, including songstress Olivia Hamilton who bolted out Beyonce's 'Dangerously In Love'.B-Smart Bollywood dancers impressed with their Indian inspired moves and were applauded for keeping up with their dance despite some glitches with the music.There were further memorable moments from a variety of acts including local singer Kion Simmons, who belted out an amazing rendition of the Luther Vandross' song 'Here and Now'; a dance piece by UDP and a stunning rendition by three amazing singing talents, namely Sia Spence, Cindy Smith and Jonae Smith.
