112 children to attend summer camp this year thanks to Oil Insurance’s donation

Thanks to a $71,500 donation by Oil Insurance Limited, 112 children sponsored by the Coalition for the Protection of Children (CPC) will attend summer day camp this year. With an increasing number parents unable to afford camp fees in the current economic climate, the CPC launched a Summer Camp Matching Programme and raised $10,000 last year to sponsor 40 students. This year, Oil Insurance Limited stepped up as lead corporate sponsors.Corporate Contributions Committee spokeswoman Karen Ratteray-Johnston said the company has “always considered it vital to give back to the Bermuda Community”.“This year we were drawn to sponsoring the CPC Summer Camp initiative because of the tremendous need of Bermuda’s children and their families in the current economic climate.“The CPC is doing an amazing job of identifying children in need of summer camp enrichment, of screening the participating summer camps to ensure that the children are well looked after in a safe environment, and of matching the children with appropriate camps.“We have been very impressed with the dedication and compassion shown by the CPC and are honoured to be sponsoring this initiative,” said Ms Ratteray-Johnston.“We are very excited to be sponsoring this initiative that will positively impact over 100 Bermudian children.”Last year the Coalition raised $10,000 in sponsorship to send 40 students to summer camp. The demand for support increased substantially this year.Knowing that the summer months are a time when many students who are struggling fall further behind, the Coalition launched the initiative to facilitate classes “to ensure that students are engaged positively” over the summer months.CPC Case Manager Shayna Duncan who organised the camp subsidies said: “It is also a time when children need to be enriched academically, socially, spiritually, emotionally and free to have fun.“The Coalition in conjunction with our generous donors work to support families with summer camp financial assistance. We are committed to building strong character, enriched lives and creating meaningful memories for our youth.”Camp activities include soccer, dance, computer courses, basketball, and Tomorrow’s Voices for children with special challenges.CPC Chairwoman Sheelagh Cooper said “We can’t thank Oil Insurance Limited enough for their support. ”
