City streets to close for Games cycling race

A number of Hamilton city centre streets will be temporarily closed tomorrow to allow NatWest Island Games cycling races to take place.

The cycling criterium will start at 6.30pm. Roads that will be closed are Front Street between Queen Street and King Street; Burnaby Street between Church Street and Front Street; and Reid Street between Court Street and Burnaby Street.

There will be only one lane of Court Street open between Church Street and Front Street. The junction of Court Street and Reid Street will be restricted to one lane, although traffic will be allowed to turn right only and travel north on Court Street from the junction.

Traffic travelling into Hamilton along Crow Lane will be required to travel up Spurling Hill.

Barriers and signage will be in place warning motorists of these road closures and diversions. Police officers will assist with traffic control at major junctions and marshals will be posted along the race course to ensure the route is kept clear of unauthorised vehicles.
