White steps down from Raleigh post

Kristin White

A charity that sends young Bermudians on expeditions around the world to help their personal development is seeking a new executive director.Kristin White is standing down as head of Raleigh International Bermuda after running the organisation for the last seven years. The charity challenges youngsters between the ages of 17 and 25 “to realise your full potential, develop skills for life, and become the person you want to be”. In recent years it has funded expeditions to Malaysia, India, Costa Rica and Nicaragua where participants have helped on a range of community projects, including building bridges and schools.Yesterday Ms White, who owns the Book Cellar bookstore in St George’s, said she was sad to be leaving the organisation but was looking for fresh challenges. And she said that working with non-profit organisations and helping young Bermudians would always be a “passion”.“It has been an incredible experience — a blessing and an honour to be part of an organisation that helps young people see themselves and the world around them differently, and has also helped me see myself differently,” she said.Charity bosses are looking to fill the vacancy by the start of next year. An advert in yesterday’s The Royal Gazette said the successful applicant will have to carry out a broad and varied range of tasks and will need to be “adaptable, enthusiastic, organised and engaged”.Applications should be e-mailed to info@raleigh.bm no later than September 2.
