Fundraising quiz night honours the late Gareth Hendrikson

Three boys left fatherless by the untimely death of Gareth Hendrickson on July 20 will get help covering their school bills, thanks to a quiz night for the Hendrickson Education fund.Mr Hendrickson’s sons Malcolm, ten, and eight-year-old twin brothers Nicholas and Christopher, will be the beneficiaries of the September 23 Trivia Quiz Night at the Docksider Pub & Restaurant in Hamilton.Their father was just 39 when he died from a pulmonary embolism.Widow Patricia Hendrickson told The Royal Gazette: “I’m very lucky to have a whole bunch of people who can pull together like this. They’re doing it for me and my family.”She said she and her husband had been firmly committed to the education of their three sons.All three are currently attending Warwick Academy.Proceeds from the trivia quiz will go directly to a bank account that will assist the Southampton family in covering the boys’ school bills.Mrs Hendrickson, who said she’s taking life “one day at a time” since the loss of her husband, said she’d kept a trove of memorabilia from his days as a student at Howard University in the US.“If they want it, I have it for them,” she said.Asked if her sons might follow in their father’s footsteps and attend the college, Mrs Hendrickson said: “The world is their oyster — to me.”To register for the quiz night ahead of the September 19 deadline, contact Joelle Turner at 296-5550.
