Open mic event for marijuana reform

An open mic on marijuana reform will be held at 7pm this Sunday at the Docksider Pub and Restaurant on Front Street.

Hosted by the Future Bermuda Alliance, a youth syndicate of the One Bermuda Alliance, the event will feature “a panel of local professionals” and residents are encouraged to come prepared with any questions, concerns, or suggestions regarding the Island's marijuana legislation.

“The Future Bermuda Alliance would like to invite the people of Bermuda to attend an evening of conversation on the current legislation of marijuana,” reads a press statement, which adds: “Did you know that in Bermuda penalties for non violent drug offenses [sic] are significantly higher then many violent crimes such as homicide and rape? The One Bermuda Alliance is here to make a change!”

A similar event was held in December 2011, and was attended by 100-150 individuals, including Craig Cannonier, MP Bob Richards, OBA chairman Thad Hollis, and others.

The Future Bermuda Alliance has yet to respond to this newspaper's requests for comment.
