Walkers in green turned out in droves and took to Hamilton's streets in spite of wet weather, to show their support for last night's Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.

The 17th annual event, organised by the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre, started at 6pm, in partnership with the BF&M Preventive Health Fair.

Organiser Deborah Narraway said more than 1,500 walkers took part, exceeding expectations for the first time in recent years.

“We had tremendous support from the community this year,” she said.

Walk packs available for the first 1,500 participants ran out, but people continued to register.

Hundreds flocked to Barr's Bay Park for the 7pm close of the walk, followed by a ceremony where participants gathered around survivors of breast cancer.

All funds from the walk will go in support of the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.
